FAQ

How many sessions will my dog need?
I understand everyone is trying to budget for training but it is very dependent on a lot of factors and it’s hard to say without meeting your dog. Two of the most important things are your follow through with the training as well as your dogs genetic temperament.

Why is crate training recommended? My dog enjoys their freedom.
Crate training is an important tool for all dogs, especially for anxious, fearful, aggressive, and reactive dogs it can provide a safe haven for them to get rest. A lot of people assume it is cruel or punishment, but in reality it gives them their own space. Crate training also presents opportunities to practice independence away from you, having a dog that is codependent with you will create trauma down the line for something as benign as you leaving for a couple hours. A dog that is crate trained will also have a more successful time being boarded, whether that’s with a trainer, at the vet, or a pet facility.

How much does it cost to start training with you?
All pricing is on my services page. There is a general range. Specific pricing will be given on your services contract. Pricing depends on different factors such as what type of training, behavior modification will be on the higher end whereas basic socialization and obedience will fall on the lower end. Other factors such as mileage outside of my service area will also apply.

Why don't you recommend I socialize my puppy at dog parks, daycare, or puppy socials?
Dog parks, doggy daycare, and puppy socials have an extremely lenient temperament test. I have had clients with their reactive, dog selective, and aggressive dogs pass the temperament test. Your dog will be facing direct interactions with all kinds of temperaments in a small area and has a high risk of being involved in scuffles. The other downfall besides illnesses, is this creates the expectation of whenever your dog sees other dogs outside of daycare/dog park/puppy socials they will have leash frustration because they cannot meet other dogs on leash and it will be a pain when you’re going on walks.
-
Is it possible for my reactive dog to not be reactive after training?
Yes, however, it is very rare and truly the only time I see it is the teenage phase or with very dominant dogs getting training. Reactivity, anxiety, environmental sensitivity, etc are genetic. Does it mean your dog can’t improve significantly with training? No. Most dogs I’ve worked with have made significant progress but there are times they will still need some guidance in high arousal situations.

How consistent should I be booking my private sessions?
Generally, depending on my availability I like to see clients once per week. But I wouldn’t do less than once every 2 weeks. We can certainly spread out once you have at least 6 sessions under your belt. If you are needing more consistent support, daily training is the best program as you will be getting training sessions daily M-F.
